Foundation Wall Replacement in St. Louis & the Midwest

Expert Structural Repair When You Need It Most

If your basement wall has cracked, bowed, or collapsed, you're not alone. In the St. Louis area and throughout the Midwest, foundation wall failure is a common problem caused by hydrostatic pressure and expanding clay soil. After heavy rainfall, or extended periods of saturation, the dense clay soil around your foundation soaks up water and expands—just like a sponge. Over time, this pressure can cause severe structural damage.

At Stratum Structural Systems, we specialize in foundation wall replacement that’s fast, reliable, and built to last. Whether you're dealing with water damage, a crumbling wall, or a complete collapse, our team is ready to respond quickly and rebuild with precision.

How We Rebuild Collapsed Foundation Walls

Exterior Excavation & Basement Debris Removal

We begin by excavating the exterior of the failed wall. This gives us quick, safe access to remove basement debris and collapsed materials.

  1. Structural Support Under Floor Joists

To preserve the rest of your home during the repair, we install a temporary support system beneath your floor joists.

  1. New Footings, Rebar & Concrete Pouring

Next, we excavate for new footings, install rebar reinforcements, and pour a new concrete footing.

  1. Wall Construction with Reinforcement

After the new concrete footing cures, we set forms and pour new reinforced concrete walls with rebar (for homes with a poured concrete foundation) or rebuild a block foundation using high quality masonry units with rebar reinforcements.

  1. Waterproofing & Drainage Protection
  • We apply a tar membrane to the exterior of the new wall
  • Install protective wall board to shield the tar during backfill
  • Add external footing drains, a sump pit, and sump pump
  • Place a geo-fabric barrier to prevent soil intrusion
  1. Backfilling with Meramec River Rock

To eliminate the original cause of failure—expanding clay soil—we backfill the trench with clean, Meramec River rock. This allows proper drainage and prevents future wall damage from soil expansion.
